There is Beauty in Strength
The surprising impact of calcium inside and out
by Michelle Gibeault Traub, R.D.

In last month’s “Healthy Skin is So Sweet” we explored the beauty benefits of chocolate. This month we delve into calcium’s role in keeping you beautiful.

Calcium is #1
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, serving as a foundation to the 206 bones of the skeletal system. Calcium also lends a hand in strengthening teeth, nails, and even the skin!

Works Inside And Out
Calcium’s benefits are most widely known with regards to the roles it plays inside the body. Scientists long have understood that calcium consumed through diet and supplementation is utilized in normal skin cell turnover, and during the cell repair that takes place when skin is wounded or otherwise damaged.1 Calcium may also work its wonders when applied directly to the skin. According to recent research by the skin care and cosmetic experts at L'Oréal Paris, “as women age, calcium deficiencies can diminish skin’s density and elasticity, resulting in thinner, more fragile skin.2” Their new face cream, Age Perfect Pro-Calcium, utilizes calcium to strengthen the skin.

Chocolate AND Calcium Help Skin- HMMMM?
All this research on chocolate and calcium benefiting the skin got us to thinking – could Adora Calcium be the next beauty breakthrough? Just for fun, we recruited Kristi, an Adora fan to try an “Adora Chocolate Face Mask.” Here is what she did:

Adora Face Mask Instructions

  • Wash and dry face
  • Unwrap 1 Adora Calcium disc and place it in a small microwave-safe dish
  • Microwave on low power at 10 second intervals until the disc melts
  • Stir until smooth and creamy and apply to the face and lips (avoiding eye area)
  • Relax for 5-10 minutes
  • Rinse, and wash with a gentle cleanser if desired.

This is what Kristi had to say about the experience: “My skin does feel smooth, but a little buttery. I smell like chocolate too.” Her final thoughts on the project, “Adora did make my skin soft, but it tastes too good to rinse down the sink!”
